In cooperation with McKinsey & Company, The Business of Fashion and ICON the Fashion Council Germany (FCG) presented the “The State of Fashion 2019” report at Hotel de Rome on January 15th 2019. The annually published report by McKinsey & Company and The Business of Fashion provides a unique overview of global developments and trends in the fashion industry. Approximately 100 participants from politics, media and the fashion industry were welcomed by Dorothee Bär, Federal Chancellor and Federal Government Commissioner for Digitisation.

Following a brief presentation of the core statements in the reports, a panel talk with Christiane Arp (President of the Fashion Council Germany and Editor-in-Chief Vogue Germany), Dr. Achim Berg (McKinsey & Company), Nick Blunden (Chief Commercial Officer, The Business of Fashion), Jörg Ehrlich (ODEEH) and Inga Griese (ICON) rounded off the event.


The Firesidechats take place several times a year at various locations that are important for the fashion industry in Germany. Selected guests from the fashion and media industries are invited to exchange information in a relaxed atmosphere. This should provide the opportunity to bring together people from the fashion industry, to make new contacts, to gather inspiration and also to get the chance for formal or informal exchange of ideas. In the fashion and media industry, contacts continue to be very important and the foundation for building new and innovative business relationships.

In the summer of 2018, the Fashion Council Germany launched the FCG Gallery to present German masterpieces of fashion in the form of an art gallery. Like Fashion HAB, the event will take place in the Halle am Berghain. A location with incomparable industrial charm and international fame, which is perfectly suited for a cultural exchange. With the FCG Gallery, the Fashion Council Germany once again sets an important example to further consolidate Berlin as a fashion location.


The first FCG Gallery took place during the Berlin Fashion Week in July 2018 and presented a selection of the collections of the German fashion talent Lutz Huelle in a unique atmosphere. The first FCG Gallery is the start of a new event series of the Fashion Council Germanys, which will be continued in 2019.

On the occasion of the Berlin Fashion Week in July 2018, the Federal Government Commissioner for Digitalisation and Minister of State Dorothee Bär invited selected guests and opinion leaders of the German fashion industry to a reception at the Federal Chancellery in Berlin in dialogue with the Fashion Council Germany.


Invited guests include FCG Presidium members John Cloppenburg (Peek & Cloppenburg) and Christiane Arp (Vogue Germany), Nina Kuhn and Rianna Nektaria Konou (Rianna + Nina), Dorothee Schumacher, Johnny Talbot and Adrian Runhof (Talbot Runhof), Leyla Piedayesh (Lala Berlin), Thorsten Mindermann (H&M Germany), Annette Weber (Glamometer), Eric Erhardt (MCM), Otto Drögsler and Jörg Ehrlich (Odeeh), Andre Maeder and Petra Fladenhofer (KaDeWe) as well as Ingo Wilts (Hugo Boss) were welcomed for an exchange of views on July 6th.


Initially announced as the “prelude to a dialogue, Fashion designed in Germany in the digital age”, the presence of Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel at Dorothee Bär’s reception to meet representatives of the textile industry personally highlighted the importance of the fashion industry for Germany. Despite its economic power, fashion is still not taken seriously as a cultural and economic commodity.


The Fashion Council Germany, with its goal of establishing German fashion as a cultural and economic good for society as a whole, will use the resulting interesting conversations as an opportunity to advance the development and implementation of joint concepts.

German Press Days


The German Press Days were launched in 2007 by Clare Langhammer (Fake PR), Monika Dagrée (Ontime PR) and Kerstin Geffert (Silk Relations). In the meantime, the B2B event in Berlin has developed into a permanent fixture for the fashion, lifestyle and beauty press in the tightly knit diaries of national and international editors.


Twice a year, over 100 journalists, stylists and bloggers interested in fashion, beauty and lifestyle travel to the German capital to check out the latest trends and collections from numerous labels, order styles for productions and establish contacts, for example at the official German Press Day Dinner.


In the last season Spring/Summer 2019, the Fashion Council Germany opened its doors on 18th & 19th October 2018 as an official participant of the GPD and had the opportunity to present the collections of the following designers in the showroom of the FCG in Bikini Berlin: Damur, Steinrohner, Last Heirs, I’VR Isabel Vollrath, Cashmere Victim, Phylyda, Working Title Studios.

Embassy reception


Other countries set an example: Local Fashion Councils host international receptions and dinners in honour of their own designers. The idea suggests itself that the Fashion Council Germany should also establish this concept in Germany in order to make German fashion designers and companies, and thus the combination of “culture” and “economy” in the form of fashion, internationally tangible and visible together with the Federal Foreign Office and a changing embassy.


The Fashion Council Germany curates 20-30 German fashion designers and brands who are allowed to present themselves at an embassy reception during the local Fashion Week. The designers are given the unique opportunity to present their brand and their creations in an environment that is incomparable in its constellation. The Fashion Council Germany e.V. ensures that the looks of the designers represent the diversity and creativity of the German fashion scene.


At the reception the guests will be welcomed by the representatives of the German government and the president of the Fashion Council Germany. They will be invited to be inspired by the exhibited looks of the designers and to enter into a dialogue with the present designers.

Fashion HAB is an initiative to create an innovative presentation platform for young German and international fashion designers.


Under the patronage of the Fashion Council Germany and with the support of our international partners (Council of Fashion Designers of America, British Fashion Council, Camera Nationale della Moda Italiana and the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture), selected national and international fashion designers have the opportunity to present their looks during the January Fashion Week in Berlin in an extraordinary setting.


The Halle am Berghain (HAB), a venue for cultural exchange and thus a suitable stage for the presentation of selected designer collections, gives the event its name and location. With its industrial, raw charm and cross-border fame, the Berghain with its uniqueness offers the perfect conditions to establish a curated fashion format for up-and-coming talents.


As part of the Mercedes-Benz Global Fashion Engagement and the International Designer Exchange Program, Mercedes-Benz supported the first edition of Fashion HAB in January 2018 during Berlin Fashion Week.
On 17 January 2018, in addition to the German labels Benu Berlin and Last Heirs, the Italian brands Bav Tailor and Davide Grillo presented their collection as well as Damir Doma, who exclusively presented his new Autumn/Winter collection 2018/19 with a show at the HAB.





In the Fireside Chats, which take place up to six times a year, selected guests from the fashion and media industry are regularly invited to various locations in Germany, that are important for the fashion Industry, in order to exchange ideas in a pleasant and informal atmosphere.


The aim is to offer the opportunity to bring people from the fashion industry together, to make new contacts, to gather inspiration and also to get the chance for a formal or informal exchange of ideas. In the fashion and media industry, contacts continue to be very important and the foundation for building new and innovative business relationships.
